Not enough time to organize and advertise for a march this summer.
Need to contact a multitude of venues.
Anyone who has organized an event of any size or, perhaps, led a corporate team involved in a complex project, is well-aware of the time needed to dot the "t's" and cross the "i's" or sumpthin' like that.
To prepare for a well-done affair start now for the 2007 march.
Imagine the negative impact of having a march only to see a few dozen folks show up. That could harm the cause more than no march at all.
Prepare now with the thought of cancelling the event if things improve in the next year. If nuthin' changes or things get worse..... then march away.
I still think a location such as St Louis MO would be better than the east coast.
"Every ten years, the Census Bureau and NOAA's National Ocean Service work together to answer that question, by pin pointing the Center of Population. This year they determined the area to be around Edgar Springs, Mo."
Roughly half the population is west and the other half east of this point.
If the event was to occur, supporters would need to place flyers advertising the event every place possible, notify local media, do whatever it takes to get the word out.
Veterans groups, retired folks, every group and organization possible needs to be contacted.
If the planning and implementation was realistic I would even pay for a few small ads in the local paper in the "event" section.
Lots of planning needed. Need to get as many "personalities" as possible to attend to give talks, sit at a table and talk with folks.
Need various organizations to have tables, booths, etc. to lend legitimacy to the event.
If a famous person could be talked into appearing...... perhaps a Hollywood star who believes in the cause? Maybe a band such as Charly Daniels to appear and play for an hour?
If personalities are present the media is sure to follow. Would also likely attract more people.
Gotta' have a picnic!!!!! It's an all-American thing!!!!
All thses things take time and lots of planning and organizing!!!!!!!!!
